Welcome to Mountain Lake English! Ms Louise's page.

At Mountain Lake, we have 4 English classes. We are working on several novels and projects at the moment.

Class 1 has just finished reading Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. They watched the movie and we did a compare/contrast chart after that. The students enjoyed the book and the movie. They are taking the final Tuck Everlasting quiz and will be starting something new on Wednesday.

Class 2 is just starting to read John Steinbeck's The Pearl. The class read Of Mice and Men earlier in the year and scripted and filmed an alternate ending. Click on the link to view this alternate ending. They most recently finished reading the Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Click on the link to see some examples of their final projects for this novel.

Class 3 most recently finished reading The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer. The students created 3-D replicas of key places in the book. Click on the link to see photos of these. They are now beginning the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell. While reading the novel, the class will be doing web-quests to find information on the Russian Revolution so that they can better understand the novel as an allegory. We will also be watching the movie. Students will choose an artistic/technological project to create after we are finished with the novel, which is intended to demonstrate their understanding/interpretation of the novel.

Class 4 most recently read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Each student created a different project to demonstrate their understanding/interpretation of the novel. Click on the link to view some examples. They are just beginning to read Night by Elie Wiesel. Before reading the text, the class watched a presentation called What Makes Us Moral? by Elie Wiesel. We will also do a web-quest and may follow up with Day and Dawn, two short novels also written by Elie Wiesel.
